Humor in the Classroom

It is often said that a dose of laughter lightens the heart. The act of teaching and learning need to be balanced with some doses of wit or humor as this relaxes built-up tension in the classroom.  To make teaching interesting and while making it easier for the students to learn in a relax atmosphere, a classroom teacher is expected to have a good sense of humor.  Humor is one of the top five traits an effective teacher must possess in order to pass information to the students.

It is quite easy to integrate humor with normal academics. If a teacher is to teach mathematics for instance, after introducing the day’s topic, he may proceed to ask the students what they know about the topic to be taught. No doubt some would explain it awkwardly eliciting laughter in the classroom. The teacher may also introduce his own humor just to make everybody laugh. After that, the teacher may proceed with the day’s topic because by then, all the students would have been psychologically set. Teacher would no doubt be interesting with good dose of humor.
Knowing the importance of humor in the classroom and its effects on students, I use it so that my teaching could be effective. Although I have my own style of wit, the students respond to it openly and in an amusing way. This has really been of help to me in balancing teaching and humor while making the students more attentive. It is worthy of note though that the use of humor should be controlled because there are times when its use could distract the class.

    Modified Lessons

Modified lessons are basically making alteration to either the mode of teaching or the content of what is being taught. It can also be defined as an adaptation of teaching to accommodate requirements for special students. Modified lesson can be done by breaking down teaching methodology to accommodate the needs of some students. Some students have precocious brains while some are not as fast as others in understanding thus necessitating their lesson to be modified. In every way, I believe in modified teaching so that I can effective in my teaching.

In order to accommodate this, lesson plans need to be restructured in such a way that it reflects the special needs of the students require modified lesson.  In a classroom of many students, there is often diversity. For instance a classroom containing fifty students could have students that are non-natives or students that do not speak the general language being spoken. For her teaching to be effective, the teacher must modify her teaching methodology so that the students who are alien to the language being spoken would learn just like other students. Again, there may be need to improve upon some of the topics that are taught and for the improvement to reflect, the lesson plan need to be adjusted to give room for it. Students from diverse cultures feel that they are part of the class. These are some of the reasons why modified lessons are crucial to the overall teaching methodology, it makes teaching more effective.

Criminal Justice

A better approach to starting this topic is by elaborating on the concept of ethics. Ethics is has to do with what is considered right or wrong. Everyday we are faced with the need to make a right or wrong decision. Oftentimes many people make wrong decisions while some people make right decisions. In a situation where there is need to make a decision, people’s conducts are influenced by a set of rules that are put in place and generally accepted as the norm. These set of rules are known as codes of ethics and people are expected to live by the dictates of these rules.  As expected many people would prefer not to live by these codes of ethics and such people are usually regarded as law breakers hence the need for enforcers of these codes of conducts. This is where a law enforcement administrator, manager, or supervisor comes to the picture.

The role played by the police or correctional manager in establishing ethical code of conduct is a very crucial one. One of the roles played by the police or correctional manager is by first familiarizing the people with the various codes of ethics so that no one would break the codes in ignorance. The familiarization may be done by using the mass media and any other local media where people would get the message. Once this first step is done, the police need to spell out the punishment for breaking any of the codes of ethics.  Another very important role the police play is living by the dictates of these codes. If they also live by them, people would have no other choice than toe their line so in doing that, the police is sending a clear message to the people which is believed to be effective. The police investigate allegations of unethical behavior thus curbing such behaviors from continuing. They also make recommendation to agencies and councils on how best to management ethical issues when it arises.
Law enforcement agencies can deal with ethical issues in many ways. One of the ways is by establishing Ethics Task Force. The bulk of the function of this task force is by making policy recommendations bordering on enhancement of cultures of ethics in various agencies or organizations. This task force is usually transient because after it has served its purpose, it is disbanded.
The establishment of Ethics Committee is another way. This committee gives advices on policy implementation and they offer support within the organization where it is set up.  Also the works of Ethics Hotline go a long way at dealing with ethical issues in the agency. Ethics Hotline is a multifunctional unit which plays the role of educating the agency on ethical issues; they also serve as a source of advice to the agency or department concerned.
